Job Description

Supply Planner - Bulk

Overview:

The Supply Planner is mainly responsible for the following:

  • Overseeing bulk supply planning activities for all North America to include Morton’s North American Mines, Inagua and Chile with annual volumes of approximately 14 MM tons.
  • Maintaining detailed weekly and monthly planning for the Chilean mine including vessel scheduling, salt grade definitions and inventory projection.
  • Managing a Supply Planner for Weeks Island (Louisiana) and all distribution related activities.
  • Developing and maintaining an 18-month Master Production Schedule that provides the Operations Management team with an achievable and efficient plan while meeting the Supply Chain KPI’s.
  • Developing and implementing a strategy to optimize stockpile inventory levels, inventory turns, and product sourcing.

What you’ll do:

Plan, Monitor & Execute

  • Minimize supply interruption during planned and unplanned production outages at Rock Mines through resourcing and re-distribution of inventory.
  • Establish production forecast and manage process for manufacturing treated salt. Coordinate bulk rock network supply through use of Supply Model (Excel) including Highway, Industrial and Chemical salt at the Mines. Such supply plan will include STO’s, customer shipments and supply to co-packers.
  • Minimize supply interruption during planned and unplanned production outages at Rock Mines through resourcing and re-distribution of inventory.

Partnerships & Cross Functional Management

  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing and Operations Management in times of constrained capacity to develop priorities and action plans to fulfill customer needs.
  • Track and maintaining non-standard sourcing movements. Collaborate with Finance Supply Chain and report estimated volume and costs to high level Management.
  • Build relationships and partnership credibility with Mining Operations, Marine Transportation and Sales & Marketing by establishing monthly or weekly supply consensus calls.

Meetings, Systems & Reporting

  • Conduct recurring meetings with General Managers for all mining sites and Inagua to coordinate production scheduling and identify any future risks in production.
  • Lead meetings with Chilean Operations & Planning teams to coordinate and inform about changes in demand and decisions on allocation of vessels. Monthly update BFC considering COAs and Spot shipments from Chile to the US East Coast and chemical/industrial customers and include estimated non-standard sourcing. Determine which grade/type of salt will be loaded on each vessel as per customer’s requirements.
  • Lead and organize weekly Touch Base meetings.
  • Escalate planned downtime that does not have 2+ Month Leadtime.

Qualifications:

In addition to demonstrating your capabilities of the above, top candidates possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or an equivalent functional area.
  • Minimum of 3 years of corporate or manufacturing production scheduling experience in a related industry.
  • Strong computer/systems skills including excel, Tableau and SAP/APO.  
  • Knowledge of key supply chain and inventory performance metrics, turns, margin contributions, etc.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities as well as attention to detail.

Sr. Logistics Analyst

Overview:

The Sr. Logistics Analyst plans, sources and negotiates Transportation Services for bulk to provide to the organization at lowest total cost of ownership. This role is responsible for handling RFXs, obtain and analyze offers and bid comparisons, and leads negotiations through to completion of carrier contracts. The Sr. Logistics Analyst develops and implements the logistics strategy by managing the carrier and supplier relationships, ensuring that all KPIs, SLAs, and contractual obligations are met. Additionally, the position identifies opportunities to improve supply chain cost through the optimization process and by sourcing Transportation Services from new and existing suppliers for newly defined lanes or shipping needs, while ensuring sufficient carrier capacity is in place.

What you’ll do:

Plan, Monitor & Execute

  • Actively manage procurement of Transportation Services and maintain assigned contracts.
  • Prepare RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs.
  • Lead negotiations with carriers to obtain competitive rates, mitigate price increases and ensure carrier capacity requirements.
  • Monitor daily open orders, shipment error corrections, route guides and manually dispatch carriers at a site or group of sites as needed.
  • Ensure Transportation requirements are met by validating carriers are capable of delivering in accordance with agreed-upon capacity and customer delivery requirements.
  • Support internal projects focusing on continuous improvement, with a focus on eliminating waste, reducing cost and driving pickup and delivery performance with our carriers.
  • Measure, manage and report on performance to established KPI’s.

Customer & Cross Functional Management

  • Work with Contract & Control Administrator and Legal as needed to complete contracts.
  • Perform annual optimization working with Distribution Managers and Sales & Marketing to determine cost efficient sourcing and lowest cost carrier, utilizing carrier capacity/performance history and customer delivery requirements.
  • Coordinate solutions to daily transportation/logistics operational issues with carriers, working with internal and external personnel to ensure seamless on-time deliveries, while exceeding customer expectations and KPI’s/performance metrics.
  • Serve as point of contact for carriers and customers in assigned area of responsibility, related to order execution status questions, issues, quality or logistics performance issues.

Qualifications:

In addition to demonstrating your capabilities of the above, top candidates possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, with preference towards Business, Logistics, Supply Chain or Operations Management or 5 years of experience in Supply Chain, Operations, Transportation and/or Project Management.
  • Experience with SAP, Warehouse Management or Transportation Management systems, Business Warehouse or similar reporting packages, databases and analytical tools highly preferred.
  • Advanced Word/Excel skills.
  • Ability to influence and build consensus around proposed opportunities within and outside of Supply Chain (Transportation, Customer Supply Chain, Sales & Marketing, Finance, Operations, etc.).
  • Well-developed relationship-building, problem-solving, decision-making, negotiation, data extraction and analysis.
